Cystatin C is a cystatin protein from family 2 of the cystatin superfamily. It is found in all sorts of human tissues and fluids, and it is typically used as a kidney function test biomarker. Cystatin C inhibits many cysteine proteases, such as papain and Cathepsins B; H; K; L, and S. Cystatin C is an inhibitor of cysteine proteinases, and it is believed to play a significant physiological function as a local regulator of this enzyme activity. It has recently been studied for its potential role in predicting new-onset or worsening cardiovascular disease. It also seems to play a role in brain disorders involving amyloid (a specific type of protein deposition); such as Alzheimer's disease. Cystatin C/CST3 Recombinant Protein (E.coli) is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
