RBP4 (Retinol Binding Protein 4) is a lipocalin that also shows up in the blood. RBP4 is the specific vector for retinol. Adipose tissue expresses and secretes RBP4, which is associated with insulin resistance. Retinol is delivered from the liver to the peripheral tissues by retinoic acid receptor-bound protein 4 (RBP4). The RBP-retinol complex binds to transthyretin in the plasma, preventing its filtration via the kidney glomeruli. Defects in RBP4 cause retinol-binding protein deficiency and can cause night vision problems. Human RBP4 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
