Description

Human Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase / PPOX ELISA

PPOX (Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase) encodes the penultimate enzyme of heme biosynthesis, which catalyzes the 6-electron oxidation of protoporphyrinogen IX to form protoporphyrin IX. A deficiency in the protein encoded by PPOX causes variegate porphyria, an autosomal dominant disease of heme metabolism caused by a deficit in protoporphyrinogen oxidase, an enzyme that is found on the inner mitochondrial membrane. PPOX inhibitors are a new class of drugs that have been developed in order to treat cancer.
