MMP 2 is a polymorphonuclear leukocyte protein that is involved in enhancing the immune response through chemotaxis and phagocytosis. MMP 2 can work together with MMP 9 to degrade endothelial cells, thereby enabling MMP2 to be found in dermal fibroblast cells throughout. MMP 2 plays a key role in the degradation of the extracellular matrix during normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development and reproduction. MMP 2 functions in angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis along with MMP 9. MMP 2 also functions to promote tumor invasion and metastasis. MMP 2 is known to bind several proteins (including MMP 1 and Tissue Factor) that serve as co-factors in the proteolytic cascade. Linearity:
