HMGB2 belongs to the non-histone chromosomal high mobility group family. HMGB2 is chromatin-associated and found throughout the nucleus of higher eukaryotic cells. In vitro research has shown that HMGB2 can bend DNA and form DNA rings successfully. In the final ligation step in DNA end-joining processes such as DNA double-strand breaks repair and V(D)J recombination, HMGB2 is also involved. The granzyme pathway, removal of Cdc6, and CDK-mediated phosphorylation are all HMGB2 related pathways.
