BLBP; also known as FABP7; is a brain fatty acid-binding protein. Fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) are a group of small, highly conserved cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. With the highest affinity among all FABPs, FABP7 binds DHA. Fatty acid uptake; transport; and metabolism are all likely targets of FABPs. BLBP is expressed; during development; in radial glia by the activation of notch receptors. It was discovered that reelin activates notch-1 in neural progenitor cells, resulting in FABP7 expression. BLBP variation is linked to weak prepulse inhibition(PPI) in mice and deficit in PPI is an endophenotypic trait observed in schizophrenia patients and their relatives. Human BLBP/FABP7 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
A DNA sequence encoding the mature form of human FABP7 (O15540) (Met1-Ala132) was expressed.
