ADAM Metallopeptidase Domain 10 (ADAM10) is a serine protease that catalyzes the hydrolysis of peptide bonds in peptide chains, including those in proteins, as well as some types of carbohydrates. ADAM10 plays a key role in the function of clearing amyloid-beta peptides from the body. Amyloid-beta peptides are large, toxic protein fragments that can be found in the brain tissue and spinal cord of patients with Alzheimer's disease. These protein fragments accumulate as waste products and are believed to cause inflammation and cell death.
