Background: | The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane protein that can form a non-selective channel permeable to calcium and other cations. The encoded protein appears to be induced to form channels by a receptor tyrosine kinase-activated phosphatidylinositol second messenger system and also by depletion of intracellular calcium stores. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. |
UniProt Protein Function: | TRPC1: Thought to form a receptor-activated non-selective calcium permeant cation channel. Probably is operated by a phosphatidylinositol second messenger system activated by receptor tyrosine kinases or G-protein coupled receptors. Seems to be also activated by intracellular calcium store depletion. Belongs to the transient receptor (TC 1.A.4) family. STrpC subfamily. TRPC1 sub-subfamily. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Channel, calcium; Membrane protein, integral; Membrane protein, multi-pass Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q23 Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane; receptor complex Molecular Function:calcium channel activity; cation channel activity; protein binding; store-operated calcium channel activity Biological Process: calcium ion transport; cytosolic calcium ion homeostasis; manganese ion transport; melanin biosynthetic process; positive regulation of release of sequestered calcium ion into cytosol; response to calcium ion |
