Background: | The protein encoded by this gene is a kinesin-like protein that may be involved in intracellular trafficking. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. |
UniProt Protein Function: | KIF16B: Plus end-directed microtubule-dependent motor protein involved in endosome transport and receptor recycling and degradation. Regulates the plus end motility of early endosomes and the balance between recycling and degradation of receptors such as EGF receptor (EGFR) and FGF receptor (FGFR). Regulates the Golgi to endosome transport of FGFR-containing vesicles during early development, a key process for developing basement membrane and epiblast and primitive endoderm lineages during early postimplantation development. Belongs to the kinesin-like protein family. 5 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Microtubule-binding; Motor Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 20p12.1 Cellular Component: early endosome; endosome; kinesin complex Molecular Function:phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate binding; phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-triphosphate binding; phosphatidylinositol-3,4-bisphosphate binding; plus-end-directed microtubule motor activity Biological Process: early endosome to late endosome transport; endoderm development; epidermal growth factor receptor signaling pathway; fibroblast growth factor receptor signaling pathway; formation of primary germ layer; Golgi to endosome transport; microtubule-based movement; receptor catabolic process; regulation of receptor recycling |
