| Background: | Zinc-finger proteins contain DNA-binding domains and have a wide variety of functions, most of which encompass some form of transcriptional activation or repression. The majority of zinc-finger proteins contain a Kr¼ppel-type DNA binding domain and a KRAB domain, which is thought to interact with KAP1, thereby recruiting histone modifying proteins. ZFP106 (Zinc finger protein 106), also known as zinc finger protein 474, is a 1883 amino acid, human homolog of the mouse Zfp106 protein and is a member of the Kr¼ppel C2H2-type zinc-finger family. Localized to the nucleus, ZFP106 contains two C2H2-type zinc fingers and is thought to be involved in transcriptional regulation. |

| UniProt Protein Function: | ZFP106: a protein with six WD40 domains and a zinc-finger domain. May be involved in growth related metabolism. A region of ZFP106 is identical to a 600-amino acid sequence implicated in the insulin receptor signaling pathway. Regulated by NRF-1 and myogenin, and expressed in brown fat, developing brain, and striated muscle.Protein type: C2H2-type zinc finger protein; Nucleolus; Adaptor/scaffoldChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 15q15.1Cellular Component: membrane; nucleolus; cytosolMolecular Function: opioid peptide activity; metal ion binding; SH3 domain bindingBiological Process: insulin receptor signaling pathway |
