Background: | This gene is a member of the TIS11 family of early response genes. Family members are induced by various agonists such as the phorbol ester TPA and the polypeptide mitogen EGF. The encoded protein contains a distinguishing putative zinc finger domain with a repeating cys-his motif. This putative nuclear transcription factor most likely functions in regulating the response to growth factors. |
Synonyms: | ZFP36 ring finger protein-like 2 |
UniProt Protein Function: | ZFP36L2: Probable regulatory protein involved in regulating the response to growth factors. RNA-binding protein that binds to 5'UUAUUUAUUU-3' core sequence. Binds to the class II AU-rich element (ARE) in the 3'-UTR of target mRNAs and promotes their deadenylation and degradation. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Transcription factor Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2p22.3-p21 Cellular Component: cytoplasm; nucleus Molecular Function:AU-rich element binding; transcription factor activity Biological Process: cell proliferation; hemopoiesis; mRNA catabolic process; somatic stem cell division; somatic stem cell maintenance |
