| Background: | This gene encodes a member of the WIPI or SVP1 family of WD40 repeat-containing proteins. The protein contains seven WD40 repeats that are thought to fold into a beta-propeller structure that mediates protein-protein interactions, and a conserved motif for interaction with phospholipids. The human genome contains several pseudogenes of this gene. |
| Synonyms: | WD repeat domain 45B |
| UniProt Protein Function: | WDR45B: an ubiquitously expressed WD40 repeat protein. Up-regulated in a variety of tumor tissues including ovarian and uterine cancers. WD40 repeats are found in a number of eukaryotic proteins that coordinate multi-protein complex assemblies. WD40 proteins are implicated in many functions including adaptor/regulatory modules in signal transduction, pre-mRNA processing and cytoskeleton assembly.Protein type: Adaptor/scaffoldChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 17q25.3Cellular Component: extrinsic to membrane; pre-autophagosomal structure membrane; cytosolMolecular Function: phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate bindingBiological Process: protein amino acid lipidation; mitochondrion degradation; autophagic vacuole formation; cellular response to nitrogen starvation |
