Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a protein that promotes angiogenesis and vasculogenesis in the fetus and adult. It is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)/vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) family, and it usually forms a dimer via disulfide bonds. VEGF-A protein is a glycosylated mitogen that acts specifically on endothelial cells and has diverse functions, including enhancing vascular permeability, promoting angiogenesis, vasculogenesis and endothelial cell development, promoting migration of cells, inhibiting apoptosis and tumor progression. VEGF-A protein is also a vasodilator that increases microvascular permeability; thus it was originally referred to as vascular permeability factor. VEGFA/VEGF165 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
Measured in a cell proliferation assay using human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC).The ED50 for this effect is typically 4-16 ng/mL.
