| Background: | OASL encodes an interferon-induced protein that is a member of the 2-5A synthetase family. 2-prime,5-prime oligoadenylates (2-5As) bind to and activate RNase L, resulting in general RNA degradation and consequent inhibition of protein synthesis. 2-5As are produced by a well-conserved family of interferon-induced enzymes, the 2-5A synthetases or OASs |
