Renin is a highly specific endopeptidase which generates angiotensin I from angiotensinogen in the plasma. angiotensin I is an important regulator of blood pressure and electrolyte balance. Renin initiates a cascade of reactions that produce an elevation of blood pressure and increased sodium retention by the kidney.
REN produced in Sf9 Baculovirus cells is a single, glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 387 amino acids (22-402 a.a.) andhaving a molecular mass of 42.5kDa (Migrates at 40-57kDa on SDS-PAGE underreducing conditions).REN is expressed with a 6 amino acid His tag atC-Terminus and purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | REN: Renin is a highly specific endopeptidase, whose only known function is to generate angiotensin I from angiotensinogen in the plasma, initiating a cascade of reactions that produce an elevation of blood pressure and increased sodium retention by the kidney. Interacts with ATP6AP2. Interaction with ATP6AP2 results in a 5-fold increased efficiency in angiotensinogen processing. Belongs to the peptidase A1 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
