Kallikrein-8is a serine protease which degrades various proteins such as casein, fibrinogen, kininogen, fibronectin and collagen type IV. Kallikrein-8 takespart in the formation and maturation of orphan and small synaptic boutons inthe Schaffer-collateral pathway, regulates Schaffer-collateral long-termpotentiation in the hippocampus and is essential for memory acquisition andsynaptic plasticity. Kallikrein-8 participates in the secondary phase ofpathogenesis following spinal cord injury and also takes part in skindesquamation and keratinocyte proliferation.
KLK8 Mouse Recombinant produced in Sf9 is a single, glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 240 amino acids (29-260) and having a molecular mass of 26.5kDa (Molecular size on SDS-PAGE will appear at approximately 28-40kDa). The KLK8 is fused to an 8 amino acid His-Tag at C-terminus and purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | KLK8: Serine protease which is capable of degrading a number of proteins such as casein, fibrinogen, kininogen, fibronectin and collagen type IV. Also cleaves L1CAM in response to increased neural activity. Induces neurite outgrowth and fasciculation of cultured hippocampal neurons. Plays a role in the formation and maturation of orphan and small synaptic boutons in the Schaffer- collateral pathway, regulates Schaffer-collateral long-term potentiation in the hippocampus and is required for memory acquisition and synaptic plasticity. Involved in skin desquamation and keratinocyte proliferation. Plays a role in the secondary phase of pathogenesis following spinal cord injury. Belongs to the peptidase S1 family. Kallikrein subfamily. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; EC 3.4.21.118; Protease; Secreted; Cell development/differentiationCellular Component: extracellular space; cytoplasm; extracellular regionMolecular Function: peptidase activity; hydrolase activity; serine-type peptidase activity; serine-type endopeptidase activity; catalytic activityBiological Process: cell death; negative regulation of myelination; negative regulation of axon regeneration; synapse organization and biogenesis; response to wounding; regulation of synapse organization and biogenesis; keratinocyte proliferation; proteolysis; neurite morphogenesis; memory |
