Interleukin-2(IL-2) is an interleukin, a cytokine signaling molecule in the immune system; it belongs to the IL-2 family. It is a potent immunoregulatory lymphokine generated by T-cells in response to antigenic or mitogenic stimulation. T-cell proliferation and other fundamental functions that are necessary for the immune response are dependent on T-cell IL-2/IL-2R signaling. B-cells, NK cells, lymphokine-activated killer cells, monocytes, macrophages, and oligodendrocytes are all affected by IL-2.
