STEAP Family Member 4(STEAP4) is a member of the STEAP (six transmembrane epithelial antigen ofprostate) family, resides in the golgi apparatus. STEAP4 act as ametalloreductase which has the ability to reduce both Fe(3+) to Fe(2+) andCu(2+) to Cu(1+),using NAD(+) as acceptor. According to studies in mice andhuman it is possible that STEAP4 may involve in adipocyte development andmetabolism, and also contribute to the normal biology of the prostate cell.
STEAP4 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single,non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 188 amino acids (1-152 a.a) andhaving a molecular mass of 20.6kDa.STEAP4 is fused to a 36 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus& purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | STEAP4: Metalloreductase that has the ability to reduce both Fe(3+) to Fe(2+) and Cu(2+) to Cu(1+). Uses NAD(+) as acceptor. Plays a role in systemic metabolic homeostasis, integrating inflammatory and metabolic responses. Associated with obesity and insulin-resistance. Involved in inflammatory arthritis, through the regulation of inflammatory cytokines. Inhibits anchorage-independent cell proliferation. Belongs to the STEAP family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |

NCBI Summary: | The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the STEAP (six transmembrane epithelial antigen of prostate) family, and resides in the golgi apparatus. It functions as a metalloreductase that has the ability to reduce both Fe(3+) to Fe(2+) and Cu(2+) to Cu(1+), using NAD(+) as acceptor. Studies in mice and human suggest that this gene maybe involved in adipocyte development and metabolism, and may contribute to the normal biology of the prostate cell, as well as prostate cancer progression. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2011] |
