The STC2/Stanniocalcin-2 protein is a secreted heterodimeric glycoprotein that is present in many tissues and may have autocrine or paracrine actions. Casein kinase 2 phosphorylates STC2 solely on its serine residues, with ten of the protein's 15 cysteine residues shared by other members of the stanniocalcin family. STC2 plays a role in the regulation of calcium and phosphate transport in the kidneys and intestines as well as cell metabolism and cellular calcium/phosphate homeostasis. Mice with constitutive overexpression of human stanniocalcin 2 displayed prenatal and postnatal growth restriction, reduced bone and muscular protein development, and organomegaly. Estrogen activates the production of this gene, which is increased in some breast cancers. STC2 is associated with renal cell carcinoma and nonpapillary renal cell carcinoma. Human STC2/Stanniocalcin 2 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
