RGS2 belongs to the RGS family which are regulatory molecules that act as GTPase activating proteins for G alpha subunits of heterotrimeric G proteins. RGS2 inhibits signal transduction by increasing the GTPase activity of G protein alpha subunits and as a result driving them into their inactive GDP-bound form.
RGS2 produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 231 amino acids (1-211a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 26.5 kDa. RGS2 is fused to a 20 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | RGS2: Inhibits signal transduction by increasing the GTPase activity of G protein alpha subunits thereby driving them into their inactive GDP-bound form. May play a role in leukemogenesis. Plays a role in negative feedback control pathway for adenylyl cyclase signaling. Binds EIF2B5 and blocks its activity, thereby inhibiting the translation of mRNA into protein. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative initiation. |

NCBI Summary: | Regulator of G protein signaling (RGS) family members are regulatory molecules that act as GTPase activating proteins (GAPs) for G alpha subunits of heterotrimeric G proteins. RGS proteins are able to deactivate G protein subunits of the Gi alpha, Go alpha and Gq alpha subtypes. They drive G proteins into their inactive GDP-bound forms. Regulator of G protein signaling 2 belongs to this family. The protein acts as a mediator of myeloid differentiation and may play a role in leukemogenesis. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2009] |
