RCAN2 is a member of the RCAN (Regulator of calcineurin) family that controls the activity of Calcineurin using a valine-rich region placed in their carboxyl tail. RCANs race against NFAT (nuclear factor of activated T-cells) to bind to the same docking site in calcineurin, and consequently inhibits or activates calcineurin activity. RCAN2 is a Ca(2+) dependent protein phosphatase which takes part in numerous neuornal functions.
RCAN2 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 217 amino acids (1-197 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 24.1kDa.RCAN2 is fused to a 20 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | RCAN2: Inhibits calcineurin-dependent transcriptional responses by binding to the catalytic domain of calcineurin A. Could play a role during central nervous system development. Belongs to the RCAN family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p12.3Cellular Component: cytoplasmMolecular Function: calcium-dependent protein serine/threonine phosphatase regulator activity |

NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a member of the regulator of calcineurin (RCAN) protein family. These proteins play a role in many physiological processes by binding to the catalytic domain of calcineurin A, inhibiting calcineurin-mediated nuclear translocation of the transcription factor NFATC1. Expression of this gene in skin fibroblasts is upregulated by thyroid hormone, and the encoded protein may also play a role in endothelial cell function and angiogenesis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011] |
