Ras-related protein Rab-2A (RAB2A)is a member of the small GTPase superfamily. RAB protein family members are nontransforming monomeric GTP-binding proteins of the Ras superfamily, which contain four highly conserved regions involved in GTP binding and hydrolysis. In addition, RAB proteins are a fundamental part of endocytic pathways. RAB2A and RAB2B are essential for protein transport from the ER to the Golgi; RAB2A is lipid-anchored to the ER-Golgi intermediate compartment membrane whereas RAB2B is lipid anchored to the cytoplasmic side of the cell membrane. RAB2A also interacts with GOLGA2.
RAB2A produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 236 amino acids (1-212 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 26.1kDa.RAB2A is fused to a 24 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

NCBI Summary: | The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the Rab family, members of which are small molecular weight guanosine triphosphatases (GTPases) that contain highly conserved domains involved in GTP binding and hydrolysis. The Rabs are membrane-bound proteins, involved in vesicular fusion and trafficking. This protein is a resident of pre-Golgi intermediates, and is required for protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi complex. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011] |
