PRG2 encodes the main component of the eosinophil granule's crystalline core. PRG2 is also found in high amounts in the placenta and pregnancy serum, where it is linked with other proteins including PAPPA, ANGOTENIN (AGT), and C3DG. PRG2 has been associated with anti-parasitic defense responses as a cytotoxin and helminthotoxin, as well as immune hypersensitivity reactions. The protein sequence of PRG2, which has been decoded, contains a peptide that is effective against Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, and mould.
