Protein Phosphatase 1, Regulatory Subunit 3B (PPP1R3B) is the catalytic subunit of the serine/theonine phosphatase, protein phosphatase-1. PPP1R3B, which is expressed both in liver and in skeletal muscle tissue, regulates glycogen synthesis in these tissues. PPP1R3B is involved in type 2 diabetes and maturity-onset diabetes of the young.
PPP1R3B Human Recombinant produced in E.coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 308 amino acids (1-285) and having a molecular mass of 35.1 kDa.PPP1R3B is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | PPP1R3B: Acts as a glycogen-targeting subunit for phosphatase PP1. Facilitates interaction of the PP1 with enzymes of the glycogen metabolism and regulates its activity. Suppresses the rate at which PP1 dephosphorylates (inactivates) glycogen phosphorylase and enhances the rate at which it activates glycogen synthase and therefore limits glycogen breakdown. Its activity is inhibited by PYGL, resulting in inhibition of the glycogen synthase and glycogen phosphorylase phosphatase activities of PP1. Dramatically increases basal and insulin-stimulated glycogen synthesis upon overexpression in hepatocytes. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Protein phosphatase, regulatory subunit Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8p23.1 Biological Process: regulation of glycogen catabolic process |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes the catalytic subunit of the serine/theonine phosphatase, protein phosphatase-1. The encoded protein is expressed in liver and skeletal muscle tissue and may be involved in regulating glycogen synthesis in these tissues. This gene may be a involved in type 2 diabetes and maturity-onset diabetes of the young. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode the same protein.[provided by RefSeq, Jan 2011] |
