Phosphoglucomutase-1 also known as PGM1 is a member of the phosphohexose mutase family. There are more than a few PGM isozymes, which catalyzethe transfer of phosphate between the 1&6 positionsof glucose. In nearly all cell types, PGM1 isozymes predominate, representing around90% of total PGM activity. It has been foundthat defects in PGM1 are the cause of glycogen storage disease type 14.
PGM1 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 585 amino acids (1-562 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 63.8kDa.PGM1 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | This enzyme participates in both the breakdown and synthesis of glucose. |
NCBI Summary: | The protein encoded by this gene is an isozyme of phosphoglucomutase (PGM) and belongs to the phosphohexose mutase family. There are several PGM isozymes, which are encoded by different genes and catalyze the transfer of phosphate between the 1 and 6 positions of glucose. In most cell types, this PGM isozyme is predominant, representing about 90% of total PGM activity. In red cells, PGM2 is a major isozyme. This gene is highly polymorphic. Mutations in this gene cause glycogen storage disease type 14. Alternativley spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified in this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010] |
