Procollagen C-endopeptidase enhancer 1, also known as PCOLCE binds tothe C-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen and enhances procollagenC-proteinase activity. In addition, C-terminal processed part of PCPE (CT-PCPE)has a metalloproteinase inhibitory activity. Among the diseases which are associatedwith PCOLCE: bone fracture & oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy.
PCOLCE produced in Sf9 Insect cells is a single, glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 433 amino acids (26-449 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 46.6kDa (Molecular size on SDS-PAGE will appear at approximately 40-57kDa).PCOLCE is expressed with an 9 amino acid His tag at C-Terminus and purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | Binds to the C-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen and enhances procollagen C-proteinase activity. |
NCBI Summary: | Fibrillar collagen types I-III are synthesized as precursor molecules known as procollagens. These precursors contain amino- and carboxyl-terminal peptide extensions known as N- and C-propeptides, respectively, which are cleaved, upon secretion of procollagen from the cell, to yield the mature triple helical, highly structured fibrils. This gene encodes a glycoprotein which binds and drives the enzymatic cleavage of type I procollagen and heightens C-proteinase activity. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
