Paired box 8,also known as PAX8 functions in thyroid follicular cell development as well asin expression of thyroid-specific genes. PAX8 complexes with TTF-1& TTF-2 inorder to stimulate thyroid follicular cell differentiation and thyroid hormonebiosynthesis by regulating the expression of NIS (sodium iodide symporter) , TPO (thyroidperoxidase), TG (thyroglobulin) and the TSHR (thyrotropin receptor). Defects in PAX8 are the cause of CHNG2 (congenitalhypothyroidism non-goitrous type 2).
PAX8 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 310 amino acids (1-287 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 33.4kDa.PAX8 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | PAX8: Transcription factor for the thyroid-specific expression of the genes exclusively expressed in the thyroid cell type, maintaining the functional differentiation of such cells. Interacts with WWTR1. Expressed in the excretory system, thyroid gland and Wilms tumors. 5 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |

NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a member of the paired box (PAX) family of transcription factors. Members of this gene family typically encode proteins that contain a paired box domain, an octapeptide, and a paired-type homeodomain. This nuclear protein is involved in thyroid follicular cell development and expression of thyroid-specific genes. Mutations in this gene have been associated with thyroid dysgenesis, thyroid follicular carcinomas and atypical follicular thyroid adenomas. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010] |
