Opticin also known as OPTC is a member of the class III of the smallleucine-rich repeat protein (SLRP)family. Members of this family are usually linked with the extracellularmatrix. OPTC is attended in significant quantities in the vitreous of the eye and also localizes to the cornea, iris, ciliary body, opticnerve, choroid, retina, and fetal liver. OPTC might noncovalently bind collagenfibrils and regulate fibril morphology, spacing and organization. OPTC is mappedto a an area of chromosome 1 which is linked with the inherited eye diseasesage-related macular degeneration (AMD) and posterior column ataxia with retinosa pigmentosa(AXPC1).
OPTC Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylatedpolypeptide chain containing 336 amino acids (20-332 a.a) and having amolecular mass of 37.6kDa.OPTC is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus& purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | OPTC: Binds collagen fibrils. Belongs to the small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family. SLRP class III subfamily. |

NCBI Summary: | Opticin belongs to class III of the small leucine-rich repeat protein (SLRP) family. Members of this family are typically associated with the extracellular matrix. Opticin is present in significant quantities in the vitreous of the eye and also localizes to the cornea, iris, ciliary body, optic nerve, choroid, retina, and fetal liver. Opticin may noncovalently bind collagen fibrils and regulate fibril morphology, spacing, and organization. The opticin gene is mapped to a region of chromosome 1 that is associated with the inherited eye diseases age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and posterior column ataxia with retinosa pigmentosa (AXPC1).
