MSRB2 is a member of the methionine sulfoxide reductases(MSRs) family which are antioxidant repair enzymes. MSRB2 protein catalyzes the decrease of free and protein-bound methionine sulfoxide to methionine. MSRB2 has a part in protecting against oxidative stress in numerous organs.
MSRB2 produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 183 amino acids (21-182a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 19.5kDa.MSRB2 is fused to a 21 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | MSRB2: Catalyzes the reduction of free and protein-bound methionine sulfoxide to methionine. Upon oxidative stress, may play a role in the preservation of mitochondrial integrity by decreasing the intracellular reactive oxygen species build-up through its scavenging role, hence contributing to cell survival and protein maintenance. Belongs to the MsrB Met sulfoxide reductase family. |
