Mitochondrialribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39Ssubunit. Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein S28, also known as MRPS28, is a proteincoding gene which encodes a 28S subunit protein which is known as mitochondrialribosomal protein S35.
MRPS28 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 139 amino acids (72-187a.a) and having a molecular mass of 15.5kDa. MRPS28 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | MRPS28: Component of the mitochondrial ribosome small subunit (28S) which comprises a 12S rRNA and about 30 distinct proteins. |

NCBI Summary: | Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and help in protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit. They have an estimated 75% protein to rRNA composition compared to prokaryotic ribosomes, where this ratio is reversed. Another difference between mammalian mitoribosomes and prokaryotic ribosomes is that the latter contain a 5S rRNA. Among different species, the proteins comprising the mitoribosome differ greatly in sequence, and sometimes in biochemical properties, which prevents easy recognition by sequence homology. This gene encodes a 28S subunit protein that has been called mitochondrial ribosomal protein S35 in the literature. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
