Mannose-6-Phosphate Receptor (M6PR) belongs to the P-type lectin family. P-type lectins play a vital role in lysosome function through the specific transport of mannose-6-phosphate-containing acid hydrolases from the Golgi complex to lysosomes. The M6PR protein functions as a homodimer and needs divalent cations for ligand binding. Lysosomal enzymes carrying phosphomannosyl residues bind specifically to mannose-6-phosphate receptors in the Golgi apparatus and the ensuing receptor-ligand complex is transferred to an acidic prelyosomal compartment where the low pH mediates the dissociation of the complex.
M6PR Human Recombinant produced in E.coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 182 amino acids (27-185) and having a molecular mass of 20.3kDa.M6PR is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
| UniProt Protein Function: | M6PR: Transport of phosphorylated lysosomal enzymes from the Golgi complex and the cell surface to lysosomes. Lysosomal enzymes bearing phosphomannosyl residues bind specifically to mannose-6- phosphate receptors in the Golgi apparatus and the resulting receptor-ligand complex is transported to an acidic prelyosomal compartment where the low pH mediates the dissociation of the complex. |

| NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a member of the P-type lectin family. P-type lectins play a critical role in lysosome function through the specific transport of mannose-6-phosphate-containing acid hydrolases from the Golgi complex to lysosomes. The encoded protein functions as a homodimer and requires divalent cations for ligand binding. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. A pseudogene of this gene is located on the long arm of chromosome X. [provided by RefSeq, May 2011] |
