Homeobox C11 (HOXC11) is a member of the Abd-B homeobox family. Thehomeobox genes encode well conserved family oftranscription factors that play a vital role in morphogenesis in allmulticellular organisms. HOXC11 is one ofnumerous homeobox HOXC genes placed in a cluster on chromosome 12. HOXC11attaches to a promoter element of thelactase-phlorizin hydrolase. HOXC11 also takes part in early intestinaldevelopment. An alternatively spliced variantencoding a shorter isoform has been defined however, its full-length nature hasnot been determined.
HOXC11 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single,non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 327 amino acids (1-304 a.a.) andhaving a molecular mass of 36.1kDa. HOXC11 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus& purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
UniProt Protein Function: | HOXC11: Sequence-specific transcription factor which is part of a developmental regulatory system that provides cells with specific positional identities on the anterior-posterior axis. Binds to a promoter element of the lactase-phlorizin hydrolase gene. Belongs to the Abd-B homeobox family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:DNA-binding Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12q13.3 Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; cytoplasm Biological Process: anterior/posterior pattern formation; transcription, DNA-dependent; induction of an organ; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; embryonic digit morphogenesis; metanephros development; proximal/distal pattern formation; endoderm development |
NCBI Summary: | This gene belongs to the homeobox family of genes. The homeobox genes encode a highly conserved family of transcription factors that play an important role in morphogenesis in all multicellular organisms. Mammals possess four similar homeobox gene clusters, HOXA, HOXB, HOXC and HOXD, which are located on different chromosomes and consist of 9 to 11 genes arranged in tandem. This gene is one of several homeobox HOXC genes located in a cluster on chromosome 12. The product of this gene binds to a promoter element of the lactase-phlorizin hydrolase. It also may play a role in early intestinal development. An alternatively spliced variant encoding a shorter isoform has been described but its full-length nature has not been determined.
