Description

Human HMGB1 ELISA Kit

High mobility group protein B1 (HMGB1) is a member of the High Mobility Group-box superfamily. HMGB1 serves as a multifunctional redox sensitive protein with diverse functions in several cellular compartments, including inflammation, cell differentiation, and tumor cell migration. In the nucleus, HMGB1 is one of the main chromatin-associated non-histone proteins and serves as a DNA chaperone involved in replication, transcription, chromatin remodeling, V(D)J recombination, DNA repair, and genome stability. HMGB1 is a sensor and/or chaperone in the cytoplasm that activates TLR9-mediated immune responses and moderates autophagy. HMGB1 has also been shown to act as a danger associated molecular pattern (DAMP) molecule, which enhances the immune response during tissue injury. HMGB1 is believed to play a role in the development of several chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, as well as cancer. High levels of serum HMGB1 have been detected in a number of inflammatory diseases, including sepsis, rheumatoid arthritis, artherosclerosis, chronic kidney disease, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). HMGB1 has also been linked to diabetes and Alzheimer's disease.
