The secreted protein GDF-11 (growth/differentiation factor 11) is a transforming growth factor beta superfamily member. By modulating the activity of Hox genes, GDF-11 controls anterior-posterior patterning. During development, the secreted signal acts globally to identify positional identity along the anterior/posterior axis. GDF11 blocks neurogenesis by inhibiting progenitor cell-cycle progression through a mechanism that is similar to myostatin's. GDF11 and myostatin are similar owing to their ties with tissue growth and development, suggesting that the same regulatory mechanisms may be used to regulate both muscular and neural growth. Human GDF11/BMP1 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
