The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. The FGF family members have significant mitogenic and cell survival activities, and are involved in a wide range of biological processes, including embryonic development, cellular growth, morphogenesis, tissue healing, tumor growth and invasion. The protein is an androgen that helps to promote mammary tumor cell growth. Elevated expression of this gene has been linked to tumor development and angiogenesis. This gene is only expressed in the adult testes and ovaries. The expression time and pattern suggest that this gene is involved in embryonic epithelial development. Midbrain and limb development, organogenesis, embryo gastrulation, and left-right axis determination are among the functions of the mouse and chicken homologues. Four transcript variants are produced as a consequence of the alternative splicing of this gene. Human FGF8a/FGF-8a Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
