Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor (CNTF) is a potent survival factor for neurons and oligodendrocytes. This protein has also been discovered to prevent motor nerve regeneration after damage. CNTF is highly conserved across species, with cross-species effects. CNTF proteins from both humans and rats have 83% homology in their amino acid sequence. CNTF is structurally related to IL6, IL11, LIF and OSM. In their receptor complexes, all of these four-helix bundle cytokines include gp130 as a signal-transducing subunit. Due to their lack of a signal sequence, CNTFs such as FGF acidic, basic, and PD-ECGF (platelet-derived endothelial cell growth factor) are unable to be secreted via traditional secretion pathways. The mechanism underlying the release of CNTF is unknown. Human CNTF Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
