CD74(HLA class II histocompatibility antigen gamma chain isoform b), is a transmembraneprotein (on antigen presenting cells) which is the invariant chain thatchaperones MHC class II dimers from the endoplasmicreticulum to the cell surface. CD74 is expressed by cells of both T lymphocyteand B lymphocyte lineages. CD74 upregulated in several cancersand is also expressed by non immune cells during inflammation. Diseases related with CD74 include thymic epithelial neoplasm andgastroduodenitis. Among its related super-pathways are Immune System and Immuneresponse Antigen presentation by MHC class II. In addition CD74 functions ascell surface receptor for the cytokine MIF.

CD74 Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 183 amino acids (73-232 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 20.6kDa.CD74 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

UniProt Protein Function:Plays a critical role in MHC class II antigen processing by stabilizing peptide-free class II alpha/beta heterodimers in a complex soon after their synthesis and directing transport of the complex from the endoplasmic reticulum to the endosomal/lysosomal system where the antigen processing and binding of antigenic peptides to MHC class II takes place. Serves as cell surface receptor for the cytokine MIF.
NCBI Summary:The protein encoded by this gene associates with class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) and is an important chaperone that regulates antigen presentation for immune response. It also serves as cell surface receptor for the cytokine macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) which, when bound to the encoded protein, initiates survival pathways and cell proliferation. This protein also interacts with amyloid precursor protein (APP) and suppresses the production of amyloid beta (Abeta).
