Human BACE1/ASP2 Recombinant Protein

BACE1 (beta-site APP-cleaving enzyme 1) is an aspartic-acid protease that is important in the formation of myelin sheaths in peripheral nerve cells. In the brain, it's found in significant quantities in the substantia nigra, locus coruleus, and medulla oblongata. In addition, strong BACE1 expression has been observed in pancreatic cells. BACE1 is involved in the development of Alzheimer's disease. BACE1 levels were increased in Alzheimer's disease patients, despite no changes in mRNA expression. BACE1 gene expression is controlled by a TATA-less promoter. Its expression is controlled via translational repression. The extremely low amounts of Ca(2+) (microM range) boosted the proteolytic activity of BACE1 considerably. Furthermore, BACE1 protein is ubiquitinated and the ubiquitin-proteasome pathway controls the degradation of BACE1 proteins and amyloid precursor protein. It has also been identified as the rate-limiting enzyme for amyloid-beta-peptide (Abeta) production. Human BACE1/ASP2 Recombinant Protein is a highly pure recombinant protein developed by Assay Genie for use in a range of applications.
