UniProt Protein Function: | CREB3L2: Transcriptional activator which is processed and activated during endoplasmic reticulum stress late phase. Binds to the cAMP response element (CRE) and activates transcription through CRE. Regulates the transcription of unfolded protein response target genes, preventing accumulation of unfolded proteins in damaged neurons. Also regulates the expression of SEC23A, accelerating protein trafficking from the ER to the Golgi thereby playing a key role in chondrocyte differentiation and formation of epiphyseal cartilage. A chromosomal aberration involving CREB3L2 is found in low grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS). Translocation t(7;16)(q33;p11) with FUS. Belongs to the bZIP family. ATF subfamily. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Membrane protein, integral; Oncoprotein; Transcription factor Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 7q33 Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum; nucleoplasm; nucleus Biological Process: cartilage development; chondrocyte differentiation; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a member of the oasis bZIP transcription factor family. Members of this family can dimerize but form homodimers only. The encoded protein is a transcriptional activator. Translocations between this gene on chromosome 7 and the gene fused in sarcoma on chromosome 16 can be found in some tumors. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011] |
