Copines are ubiquitously expressed, phospholipid-binding proteins that have been conserved through evolution. Highest expression of CPNE8 mRNA is seen in the prostate, heart, and brain. Fusion to AML1 in a t(12;21) translocation causes aggressive acute myelogenous leukemia.
