UniProt Protein Function: | MRCKB: Serine/threonine-protein kinase which is an important downstream effector of CDC42 and plays a role in the regulation of cytoskeleton reorganization and cell migration. Regulates actin cytoskeletal reorganization via phosphorylation of PPP1R12C and MYL9/MLC2. In concert with MYO18A and LURAP1, is involved in modulating lamellar actomyosin retrograde flow that is crucial to cell protrusion and migration. Phosphorylates PPP1R12A. Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. AGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. DMPK subfamily.Protein type: Protein kinase, AGC; Protein kinase, Ser/Thr (non-receptor); Kinase, protein; EC 2.7.11.1; AGC group; DMPK family; GEK subfamilyChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 14q32.3Cellular Component: actomyosin; cytoplasm; cytoskeleton; intercellular junction; leading edge; plasma membraneMolecular Function: ATP binding; magnesium ion binding; protein kinase activity; protein serine/threonine kinase activity; Rho GTPase bindingBiological Process: actin cytoskeleton reorganization; actomyosin structure organization and biogenesis; cell migration; cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis; establishment and/or maintenance of cell polarity; protein amino acid phosphorylation; signal transduction |
UniProt Protein Details: | |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes a member of the serine/threonine protein kinase family. The encoded protein contains a Cdc42/Rac-binding p21 binding domain resembling that of PAK kinase. The kinase domain of this protein is most closely related to that of myotonic dystrophy kinase-related ROK. Studies of the similar gene in rat suggested that this kinase may act as a downstream effector of Cdc42 in cytoskeletal reorganization. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
