Background: | Rho GTPases play a fundamental role in numerous cellular processes that are initiated by extracellular stimuli that work through G protein coupled receptors. The encoded protein belongs to a family of cytoplasmic proteins that activate the Ras-like family of Rho proteins by exchanging bound GDP for GTP. It may form a complex with G proteins and stimulate Rho-dependent signals. This protein is activated by PI3-kinase. Mutations in this gene can cause X-chromosomal non-specific mental retardation. |
Synonyms: | Rac/Cdc42 guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) 6 |
UniProt Protein Function: | ARHGEF6: Acts as a RAC1 guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF). Interacts with PAK kinases through the SH3 domain. Interacts with GIT1. Component of cytoplasmic complexes, which also contain PXN, GIT1 and PAK1. Ubiquitous. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.Protein type: GEFs; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; GEFs, Rac/RhoChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: Xq26.3Cellular Component: cytosol; intracellular; lamellipodiumMolecular Function: guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activity; protein binding; Rho guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activityBiological Process: lamellipodium biogenesis; positive regulation of apoptosis; regulation of small GTPase mediated signal transductionDisease: Mental Retardation, X-linked 46 |
