Background: | Rho GTPases play a fundamental role in numerous cellular processes that are initiated by extracellular stimuli working through G protein-coupled receptors. The encoded protein may form a complex with G proteins and stimulate Rho-dependent signals. This protein has been observed to form a myeloid/lymphoid fusion partner in acute myeloid leukemia. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. |
Synonyms: | Rho guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) 12 |
UniProt Protein Function: | ARHGEF12: a widely-expressed guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) for RhoA GTPase. May act as GTPase-activating protein (GAP) for G-alpha 12 and 13. The fusion protein MLL-ARHGEF12 appears to be a disease driver in acute myeloid leukemia. Two isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.Protein type: GEF; GEF, Rac/Rho; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis; OncoproteinChromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q23.3Cellular Component: cytoplasm; cytosolMolecular Function: G-protein-coupled receptor binding; guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activity; protein binding; Rho guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activityBiological Process: G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway; positive regulation of apoptosis; regulation of small GTPase mediated signal transduction |
