Background: | This gene is a member of the sauvagine/corticotropin-releasing factor/urotensin I family. It is structurally related to the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) gene and the encoded product is an endogenous ligand for CRF type 2 receptors. In the brain it may be responsible for the effects of stress on appetite. In spite of the gene family name similarity, the product of this gene has no sequence similarity to urotensin II. |
UniProt Protein Function: | UCN2: Suppresses food intake, delays gastric emptying and decreases heat-induced edema. Might represent an endogenous ligand for maintaining homeostasis after stress. Belongs to the sauvagine/corticotropin-releasing factor/urotensin I family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3p21.3 Cellular Component: extracellular space; extracellular region Molecular Function:hormone binding; G-protein-coupled receptor binding; hormone activity; corticotropin-releasing hormone receptor 2 binding; receptor binding Biological Process: cell proliferation; negative regulation of luteinizing hormone secretion; cellular response to nutrient levels; digestion; response to stress; cAMP biosynthetic process; G-protein signaling, adenylate cyclase activating pathway; negative regulation of follicle-stimulating hormone secretion |
