Background: | The protein encoded by this gene contains a RING finger motif and is highly similar to the ring finger proteins RNF28/MURF1 and RNF29/MURF2. In vitro studies demonstrated that this protein, RNF28, and RNF29 form heterodimers, which may be important for the regulation of titin kinase and microtubule-dependent signal pathways in striated muscles. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported. |
UniProt Protein Function: | TRIM54: May bind and stabilize microtubules during myotubes formation. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Ligase; Ubiquitin ligase; EC 6.3.2.-; Ubiquitin conjugating system Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2p23.3 Cellular Component: microtubule; microtubule associated complex; Z disc Molecular Function:signal transducer activity; zinc ion binding; microtubule binding Biological Process: negative regulation of microtubule depolymerization; multicellular organismal development; signal transduction; cell differentiation; microtubule-based process |
