Background: | This gene encodes a member of the Ste20 family of serine/threonine protein kinases, and is similar to several known polo-like kinase kinases. The protein can associate with and phosphorylate polo-like kinase 1, and overexpression of a kinase-dead version of the protein interferes with normal cell cycle progression. The kinase can also negatively regulate interleukin 2 expression in T-cells via the mitogen activated protein kinase kinase 1 pathway. |
UniProt Protein Function: | LOK: a protein kinase of the STE20 family. Highly expressed in hematopoietic tissue. May cooperate with SLK to regulate Plk1 function in human cells. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Kinase, protein; Protein kinase, Ser/Thr (non-receptor); EC 2.7.11.1; Protein kinase, STE; STE group; STE20 family; SLK subfamily Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5q35.1 Cellular Component: cytoplasm; plasma membrane Molecular Function:identical protein binding; polo kinase kinase activity; protein binding; protein homodimerization activity; protein serine/threonine kinase activity Biological Process: protein amino acid autophosphorylation; protein amino acid phosphorylation |
