UniProt Protein Function: | POLR2C: DNA-dependent RNA polymerase catalyzes the transcription of DNA into RNA using the four ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. Component of RNA polymerase II which synthesizes mRNA precursors and many functional non-coding RNAs. Pol II is the central component of the basal RNA polymerase II transcription machinery. It is composed of mobile elements that move relative to each other. RPB3 is part of the core element with the central large cleft and the clamp element that moves to open and close the cleft. Belongs to the archaeal RpoD/eukaryotic RPB3 RNA polymerase subunit family. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:DNA-binding; Nucleotide Metabolism - purine; Transcription initiation complex; Nucleotide Metabolism - pyrimidine Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16q13-q21 Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; microtubule cytoskeleton; cytoplasm; DNA-directed RNA polymerase II, core complex; nucleus Molecular Function:protein dimerization activity; DNA binding Biological Process: transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; nuclear mRNA splicing, via spliceosome; transcription initiation from RNA polymerase II promoter; mRNA capping; viral reproduction; positive regulation of viral transcription; nucleotide-excision repair; somatic stem cell maintenance; transcription-coupled nucleotide-excision repair; RNA splicing; RNA elongation from RNA polymerase II promoter; gene expression; DNA repair |
NCBI Summary: | This gene encodes the third largest subunit of RNA polymerase II, the polymerase responsible for synthesizing messenger RNA in eukaryotes. The product of this gene contains a cysteine rich region and exists as a heterodimer with another polymerase subunit, POLR2J. These two subunits form a core subassembly unit of the polymerase. A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 21. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
