UniProt Protein Function: | Radixin: a cytoskeletal protein of the ERM family which includes ezrin and moiesin. ERM proteins appear to function as cross-linkers between plasma membranes and actin-based cytoskeletons. May play a crucial role in the binding of the barbed end of actin filaments to the plasma membrane. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Cytoskeletal; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q23 Cellular Component: apical plasma membrane; cortical actin cytoskeleton; extracellular space; filopodium; focal adhesion; lamellipodium; microvillus; plasma membrane Molecular Function:actin binding; ATPase binding; protein binding; protein homodimerization activity; protein kinase A binding Biological Process: establishment of protein localization; negative regulation of cell size; negative regulation of homotypic cell-cell adhesion; positive regulation of cell migration; regulation of actin filament bundle formation; regulation of cell shape; regulation of cell size; regulation of GTPase activity; regulation of Rap protein signal transduction Disease: Deafness, Autosomal Recessive 24 |
NCBI Summary: | Radixin is a cytoskeletal protein that may be important in linking actin to the plasma membrane. It is highly similar in sequence to both ezrin and moesin. The radixin gene has been localized by fluorescence in situ hybridization to 11q23. A truncated version representing a pseudogene (RDXP2) was assigned to Xp21.3. Another pseudogene that seemed to lack introns (RDXP1) was mapped to 11p by Southern and PCR analyses. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012] |
