Background: | This gene encodes a member of the disulfide isomerase (PDI) family of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) proteins that catalyze protein folding and thiol-disulfide interchange reactions. The encoded protein has an N-terminal ER-signal sequence, two catalytically active thioredoxin (TRX) domains, two TRX-like domains and a C-terminal ER-retention sequence. The protein plays a role in the folding of nascent proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum by forming disulfide bonds through its thiol isomerase, oxidase, and reductase activity. |
UniProt Protein Function: | PDIA2: Acts as an intracellular estrogen-binding protein. May be involved in modulating cellular levels and biological functions of estrogens in the pancreas. May act as a chaperone that inhibits aggregation of misfolded proteins. Belongs to the protein disulfide isomerase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Endoplasmic reticulum; Isomerase; EC 5.3.4.1 Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16p13.3 Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum Molecular Function:disulfide oxidoreductase activity; peptidyl-proline 4-dioxygenase activity; protein binding Biological Process: protein folding; protein retention in ER |
NCBI Summary: | Protein disulfide isomerases (EC 5.3.4.1), such as PDIP, are endoplasmic reticulum (ER) resident proteins that catalyze protein folding and thiol-disulfide interchange reactions (Desilva et al., 1996 [PubMed 8561901]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008] |
