Background: | This gene encodes a member of the nucleoporin family that shares 87% sequence identity with rat nucleoporin p58. The protein is localized to the nuclear rim and is a component of the nuclear pore complex (NPC). All molecules entering or leaving the nucleus either diffuse through or are actively transported by the NPC. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008] |
UniProt Protein Function: | NUPL1: a nuclear pore protein. Component of the p62 complex which includes NUP62, NUP54, and NUPL1. Interacts with NUTF2, and with KPNA2 and KPNB1 proteins when they are together, but not with KPNA2 alone. Located in the central region of the nuclear pore complex, biased towards thecytoplasmic side. Contains FG repeats. Three isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. |
UniProt Protein Details: | Protein type:Nucleoporin; Nuclear import Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 13q12.13 Cellular Component: nuclear envelope; nuclear pore Molecular Function:nuclear localization sequence binding; nucleocytoplasmic transporter activity; protein binding Biological Process: mitotic nuclear envelope disassembly; mRNA export from nucleus; protein import into nucleus; protein sumoylation; RNA-mediated gene silencing; tRNA export from nucleus; viral reproduction; viral transcription |
